Dolly and Stitches Get a Checkup!
Dolly, one of JAC's longest residents, is given a cardiogram by veterinary technician students of the Bergen Community College of Northern New Jersey, with their instructor, Robin DeBode. They also checked up on "Stitches", a victim of dog fighting, who came to us almost dead and who, after a blood transfusion and 101 stitches, has lived to charm everyone he meets, including other dogs and cats! A Great Day for the Kids!
Sunday schools from Warren, NJ traveled to JAC's animal shelter for special classes that helped them learn about caring for animals. Pictured are Pam Goldman and her therapy dog Henry, who taught the children how they could train their dogs to become licensed therapy dogs and take them for visits into hospitals and schools.
The children also learned some valuable safety tips, including how to approach an unfamiliar dog. They were shown a film on "How to Take Care of Your Dog", worked on an art project, and, after snacks, were treated to a tour of the shelter.
An art show is planned for the end of the year to raise money for the shelter. In the meantime, the children have been busy raising money and collecting much needed gifts, such as pet food, leashes, collars, dog and cat treats and much more. It was a wonderful learning experience, and fun too!
This new program is part of a series of special programs developed by Elaine Brown, Educator Emeritus of Temple B'nai Jeshurun in Short Hills, NJ. If your school is interested in participating in any of our programs, please contact us. (04/04/07)
JAC Pets Greet Seniors
Jersey Animal Coalition volunteers brought joy to a senior citizen residence with two of their shelter animals. Such visits bring joy not only to the residents, but to our volunteers as well! JAC is planning many more such visits. (02/19/07)
