To all the friends of Jersey Animal Coalition -

We note with sadness the passing of Frank Lautenberg, JAC Honorary Trustee and friend of JAC.
He will surely be remembered for the legislation he introduced benefiting our human population, but we will remember him as a powerful advocate for the pets of our country.
Few know of his compassion for animals and his understanding of the importance of the human-animal bond.
We are proud that after the tragic forced separation of pets and their owners during Hurricane Katrina in 2009, he chose our shelter as the place for the introduction of his landmark bill, “Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards (PETS) Act “ requiring state and local emergency preparedness plans to take into account the needs of individuals with household pets and service animals, commonly known as “No Pet Left Behind”. This press conference received national attention and was covered by the major television, internet and radio networks.
He was indeed one of a kind, and his passing leaves a void which we hope another courageous legislator, taking his or her cue from him, will fill with even more animal friendly legislation.
