Happy Endings

These are but a few stories that make all of our efforts worthwhile, and give us the strength and inspiration to carry on our work for those creatures who cannot speak for themselves. Do you have a happy ending story that you'd like to share? Yo-yo
"Hi Ruth,

We adopted Yo-yo about three weeks ago. She is a wonderful addition to the family. Not only is she well trained, she has been adjusting to home life in our house like she has always lived there. The most recent update is that the cage is no longer a place she sleeps in; it only houses some of the toys we have for her. Her first vet visit was sucessful. She received a clean bill of health.

She been left alone all day a few times, and we came back to a home perfectly intact. Yo-yo has strong teeth, as she almost always smiles with that mischief smile but we finally got toys that are strong enough to last her more than a few hours, and she can see real enjoyment out of them. We play frisbee, and the newest toy is a plain baseball. She is a regular catcher.

She been trustworthy with me in allowing to bathe her. She is do for another bath after running around Central park yesterday. It was her first day at real socializing and she got an "A." I have enclosed some pictures you can share with your staff.

Everyone was so wonderful with her and us. I would recommend anyone to adopt a pet from your shelter. Not only is it clean, your staff is warm, friendly, caring and patient. I want to thank you for taking in animals and giving them a loving place until they find a family they belong with."

  Bubba
"My boyfriend and i adopted Bubba this spring. He has been nothing but a wonderful addition to our family. I can't imagine not having him around the house. He is so sweet natured and loves walking in the woods and going to the dog park. He's become used to sleeping on the couch and playing with our other dog, Pebbles, even though Pebbles runs the house."

Savannah
"We adopted Savannah on 6/28/06 (though she was known as Georgia at JAC). She has made every day an adventure full of playing, running, and of course, napping.

Savannah is a great addition to us and we are so happy to have been able to rescue her.

I've attached some pictures as she has grown up. Thank you again for helping to bring her into our lives."

  Candi (Vanessa)
"We adopted Vanessa back on October 20, 2006. Our family had just lost 2 older dogs (14 + 16) less than a year ago and after a mourning period were ready to add to our 'family' again. I'm a big proponent of saving dogs rather than 'buying' them, so we began to look for a dog on Petfinder.com. We saw the picture of Vanessa and fell in love immediately. I drove up to JAC to see what they were about and to meet the dogs. It was a pretty good drive (they are in South Orange and I live in Edison), but I can tell you it was well worth it! JAC's staff was very professional and answered all my questions. When they brought out Vanessa, I fell in love immediately! Very playful and happy...what do you expect from a puppy? I brought her home that day and we re-named her 'Candi.'

As you can see, Candi has 'adopted' to our environment very quickly! She loves to lay with us in the bed and has taken to the kids just fine. She loves to run around and play very much! See? She even got into the holiday spirit and dressed up for Halloween! Hehe...Candi has become one of our family and we are very blessed to have her.

Thank you so much, JAC, for all your hard and noble work! Hopefully more people will also help 'save' animals by adopting as well!! Keep in touch!"

Sasha
"Thank You!

The puppies are about 6 months old now, I adopted them on November 5, 2005 and it has been great at my house ever since. I lost my beloved Rottweler Tori on October 1, 2005 and swore I would never go through that pain again until I saw Sasha on Petfinders. She had a face I just couldn’t forget, I was eager to meet her and take her home, along with maybe one of her puppies. When I got to JAC and saw she had two little girls left, I knew I just had to have them both. Sasha is the best behaved dog with a wonderful temperament, she takes great care of her little girls, is very loving and as you can see from the picture, she loves to eat. The puppies are sweet and loving, they put a smile on everyones face. My family and friends just visit to see them. I know Sasha had 8 puppies and wonder often how the other 6 are (ettig54@aol.com). I want to thank everyone who had a part in rescuing Sasha and her puppies."

Sincerely,
Brigitte

Wacko
"Hello,

We just wanted to tell you guys how Wacko is doing. Just to remind you Wacko was the Pomeranian mix adopted on 11/10/05. He is a very energetic, lovable, smart pup who just loves everyone. Everyone who sees him wants him for themselves and thinks he's the best looking most adorable puppy in the world. We are currently in the process of house training him and guess what? He won't go potty anywhere else but the newspapers we lay for him downstairs. He can't go outside yet b/c his Vet told us not until next month when he finishes all his vaccinations but we can tell he's looking forward to it. Wacko has learned to sit, lay down and heel. We love this guy so much that we bought it Health insurance just in case. We love this handsome guy. "

Sincerely,
The Attaalla Family

  Banjo
"I just wanted to send you some pictures of the little boy my boyfriend Ken adopted on Sunday, December 3rd. Since he was only in the shelter for a day, he did not have a name, but he was being called Harry by the volunteers. His new name is Banjo. Banjo has warmed up to everyone in the house (he was a little shy at first, since he was taken out of an abusive home and had a very busy and stressful day). Although everyone loves him, and he feels the same, his best friend is my dog, Tobey, who is the other dog in the pictures.

We just wanted to thank you for letting us adopt such a sweet little boy, and to let you know how he is doing after a week and a half."

Shadow
"Pam,
Hi, I just wanted to give you an update on Shadow. She was one of the 4 black lab puppies adopted on May 1.

She has truly become part of the family. She is a VERY loving little girl. She is also very naughty and mischevious too. I always tell people I have 4 kids now because she is in trouble as much as the kids. But, of course, we know she is just a puppy and that is expected. She is house broken and hasn't messed in the house in over a month.

Shadow has gone on two camping trips this summer and she just loves being with us. She liked playing in the lake on our last trip to Jellystone Park in the Catskills. She loves the water, as you will see in one of the pictures where I didn't close the bathroom door completely while my daughters were taking a bath. Oops. Shadow has since had many baths and showers because if the bathroom door is not completely closed, she just comes right in and jumps in the bathtub. She is very funny.

Well, thank you for the wonderful work you do over there and I hope that you have found many more homes for many more dogs/cats since our lucky day."

Sincerely,
Evamarie

  Abby
"Hi Doreen,

I wanted to give you a long overdue update on Applebee whom we re-named Abigail ("Abby").

Abby is a delight and in perfect health. We took her to the vet soon after we got her home and got her spayed. She is very playful and affectionate although we're trying to break her habit of giving little 'love bites' on our arms. She is definitely high-energy but is also just as content to sit with us on the couch when we're watching TV. We think it's hilarious when we're watching Animal Planet and she keeps searching for the dogs behind the TV! Before even meeting Abby, the cats sensed a new presence and a new scent and puffed up tails were common. They were eventually introduced through a gate. We still keep them separated since Abby still gets a little too excited, but now the cats come right up to the gate looking for her.

Abby is a delight and we're so thankful that we found her. Here's one of our favorite pictures after she first came home.

Thank you again for helping Abby become part of our family!"

  Chow Mein
"Hello everyone! I know it has been quite a while since we took Chow Mein (renamed Cosmo) home with us, and I promised I'd write. We've had Cosmo with us since January 2005, and cannot imagine life without him.
He very quickly made himself part of the family (which includes 2 cats!). Cosmo is such a sweet, well behaved,fun-loving dog, I still can't imagine why anyone would have abandoned him. Hel loves to give kisses, and wrestle on the floor, and keeps a very close eye on the neighborhood.

In April, we moved from our apartment into a house with a big, fenced in back yard. Cosmo loves tearing around the yard, and his favorite outside toy is a metal dog dish that he throws around, barks at, and chases by himself! We have yet to get the perfect picture of him doing that, but as soon as we do, we'll send it. It's amazing! Everyone who comes into our home is immediately in love with Cos, and we always tell them just where and how Cosmo came into our lives. Thanks to all of you, and keep up the wonderful work that you do. I've enclosed a few pics of Cosmo lounging at home!"

Thanks again to all of you,
Colleen S.

  Short Stop
"Here are some pictures of Shorty, who just recently celebrated his first birthday. As you can see, he has grown into a very handsome boy. He is such a loveable little guy and just a joy to have around. We are truly blessed to have found him and can not imagine what life would be like without him. There are also a few pictures with his sister, Nera, whom he adores. They have such a great time together, chasing each other and wrestling around.

I can't thank you and JAC enough for saving Shorty's life!! You should all be commended for the tireless effort that you put into saving animals lives. Thank you again!"

  Maggie
"To all at JAC who work so hard and are so dedicated to the pets that we are so fortunate to adopt.

Maggie, a.k.a. Maxi, entered our lives on Sept 20, 2005. After the loss of our Tucker in Aug., we and our Newf Ernie were suffering a great loss and needed to replace that void. We were the lucky ones in meeting with Maggie and just about knew from that meeting with her that she would fit into our lives. I must admit that in first searching for another dog, in my distraught state I had been looking for a replica of Tucker. When I went to Petfinder and saw all the pages and pages of homeless animals, I realized that 10 minutes from our home was a shelter that we were quite familiar with. And so it began. The minute we went to see Maggie in her crate her tail would not stop wagging. We knew we had to take her and make a better life that she had before coming to JAC.

There is not a day that she doesn’t make us laugh and to watch her in her shy and somewhat unsure way becoming friends with Ernie. We look forward to having her enjoy all the things she probably missed in her life. We thank the JAC for being here and we thank you Maggie for choosing us. With each ending comes a new beginning and Maggie is just starting hers. Quite a good feeling to know that one dog will no longer be on one of those pages."
